Photography

For this project, I was tasked with taking and editing my own photographs. Multiple themes were set for taking these photos including Leading Lines, Long Exposure, Levels, Portraits, Architecture and Still Life.

Unedited Photos

Leading Lines is a style of photography where you literally have lines that lead away from the camera and into the distance. I experimented quite a bit with a few of these photos by using tables, glass and walls which all have a very visible end rather than carying on into the distance.
Long Exposure is a style of photography where you edit the camera settings to leave the shutter open for longer to allow more light to be let in. This creates very interesting effects such as streaks of light that I could use to draw. It was definitely the most fun to capture, compared to the other styles.
Levels is a style of photography where you show a change in height clearly within the shot. This can be done via ledges or windows on buildings, but I experimented by using the branches of trees which created a very good result.

Portrait is a style of photography that captures the upper body of the subject. My intent was to convey different emotions on my subjects faces, as well as limiting and focusing the light to produce a silhouette effect in some of the shots.

Architecture is a style of photography with results that look very similar to levels. The key difference, however, is that the main focus is only to capture interesting shapes, materials and colours within buildings.

Still Life is a style of photography that aims to capture objects in the middle within a moment in time. I captured these photos in different lights and using many different materials such as paints, sweets and toys. The materials were scattered all over the shot to create a very messy effect.

Edited Photos

I chose some of the photos from the styles I captured (Leading Lines, Long Exposure & Portraits) to use in Photoshop and experimented with some of the filters in the filter library. Out of all the edits, the ones that definitely came out the best were the Long Exposure edits. This is due to the surprising results that some filters had when used on some of the photos.
