Double Exposure

Double Exposure is a technique that is used in photography to combine two images together by altering the opacity. This is a very simple process in Photoshop but originally it was done by exposing a portion of film twice to superimpose a second image on top of the first.

Original Images

The first image I used was a photo taken of a city with an effect applied that bends the image around a certain point. The second image was a dark watch face. My idea behind selecting these two photos was due to them both being round and easier to blend together.

Process

I first edited the watch face to remove the straps though I left the lines around the watch very rough since it wasn’t necessary to perfectly cut it out. I next applied a mask to the watch face and positioned it at the center of the other image. On the mask, I used a soft brush to remove any of the rough edges that stood out and to blend the edges.

Final Design

To finish this design, I changed the blend mode of the watch face to ‘Lighter Colour’ which automatically adjusted the darker area’s opacity to match the other image below. Overall, this small project was very easy to create but produced a reasonable effect. The problem with Double Exposure however, is that it is not easy to find two images that will blend together.
